Others will say that they \u2018do not sign EDMs.\u2019\u00a0 In this case, please reply (don\u2019t take \u2018no\u2019 for an answer) and ask them to write a letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, calling upon him to announce a Strategy as of urgency. This is important because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Mental Health of Children and Young People in England Survey published by NHS Digital on 22<sup>nd<\/sup> October\u00a0 has found that the proportion of children with mental health problems is now 50% higher than before the pandemic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>One in six children \u00a0have a condition such as anxiety, depression or loneliness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tamsin Ford, Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cambridge University says that the \u2018significant deterioration\u2019 in children\u2019s mental health is likely to be linked to lockdown. We cannot be at all sure that either a full scale national lockdown or a series of regional and\/or circuit-breaker lockdowns may not be with us sooner rather than later<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>About five children in an average class size of thirty will \u2018probably\u2019 have a mental health disorder now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The increase in mental health problems among children is more marked in children of primary age and of these, more in boys of 5-10 years of age than girls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Children aged 5-16 with a probable mental health disorder are more likely to live in an economically deprived household or one that has fallen behind with payment commitments during the pandemic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Children\u2019s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield called for \u2018a children\u2019s mental health service that is properly funded with no postcode lottery.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please contact me direct if you have further queries on <a href=\"mailto:helenrclark@ntlworld.com\">helenrclark@ntlworld.com<\/a>\u00a0 and do send me all replies from MPs.<\/p>\n<p>Even if these are negative, they are of help to us.<\/p>\n<p>I am extremely grateful to the registrant who contacted me in October with a response from her MP and a request for suggestions for follow-up.
