Anna Joy, trainee Play Therapist, recently used the email template downloadable from the www.ChildMentalHealthCharter.com website & welcomed her local MP to the centre where she is doing her placement. Anna’s report makes wonderful reading.
In collaboration with the team at Our Space, Play & Family Therapies CIC we recently hosted Tom Collins MP for Worcester at the centre where I’m completing my practice hours. ( I’m at 105/200 that it takes to qualify!).
Together we shared some of the frustrations of being Play Therapists, wanting to work with ALL families, but sadly can’t due to funding issues.
We also gave a voice to families who have been/ are going through the process of assessment for neurodivergence with their children and the challenges they faced and are continuing to face, without the support they need. These families very eloquently described the lack in the services meant to support them.
Children spoke about their struggles and how Play Therapy helped them, during those times.
Then as professionals, we began to discuss some of the wider issues and possible ways to begin addressing some of those issues!
It felt like a bleak outlook at times, but hopefully this will be the start of a combined project and change will come from it.
One way in which we can solve some of the issues faced by families is by getting involved with and signing the Child Mental Health Charter, which aims to prioritise Children’s Mental Health and ensure that the government put funding in place for all children to be able to access support. Please help us by SIGNING the CMHC at www.childmentalhealthcharter.com/supporters
Another way to help us is by always checking accreditation of Mental Health Professionals that work with your children – by checking the BAPT or PTUK registers for Play Therapists.
Thanking you for all your support so far!!
